STATIC MIXERS

1. Key Selection Criteria

There are two things we are selecting for, diameter of the mixer for flow rate and number of elements to ensure we get a complete mix.

2. Understanding Part Numbers

The part number for a static mixer looks like this: MX1-830. In the part number the MX1 part denotes a static mixer. The next number is the diameter 4, 6, 8, 10. The last is the number of mix elements in this case 30.

3. Selecting the Diameter

The diameter of the mixer is selected for the amount of flow through the mixer. A thick material at in a large part will need the larger mixer sizes. A thin material in a small part can use a smaller mixer.

4. Choosing the Number of Elements

The number of elements or length of the static mixer is chosen to give a complete mix without having to deal with an overly long mixer. Often, we can see the material mix together in the mixer. We would like to see a complete mix 2/3 of the way down the mixer.

Most epoxies will mix in 24-30 elements. Most urethanes will need 30-40 elements.

5. Special Circumstances

There are several other mixers for special circumstances.

The MX1-162A-6XX series are larger ¾” mixers for high flow rates with thick materials. The last two numbers are the number of elements.

MX1-012-832, 312-032 are two stage mixers, larger diameter at the top and smaller 1/3 of the way down. They are useful when materials won’t mix in a standard mixer.

The MX1-300-xxx series are square mixers that are shorter per element. They can be used where pressures are low and materials are not difficult to mix.
